TEACHING
In the Theatre of the Oppressed, Augusto Boal establishes that there are no spectators; everyone in the room must be actively engaged. When this happens, spectators become spect-actors. As an educator, I prioritize the creation of equitable and inclusive learning spaces and motivate my students to participate as spect-actors through my unique combination of historical, theoretical, and practice-based approaches to teaching theatre and performance. My goal is for students not simply to acquire knowledge but actively apply it to the worlds they produce and inhabit.
My pedagogy engages theories and methods within Black feminism, critical race and gender studies, decolonial critique, collaborative performance, and global histories of popular education and participatory action research.
